The Evolution of the Jeep

A comprehensive history in blueprints

The jeep is the most iconic vehicle in American history. From the battlegrounds of World War II to the trails and streets of today, these vehicles have pushed the limits of off-road capability and have come to define the rugged independence of the American spirit. This project seeks to capture the history of the jeep and present a comprehensive look at all the different models throughout the years. For the purposes of documentation, I’ve broken up the history into three groups of eight, for a total of 24 vehicles. The first group is the military jeep.

The second group is the civilian jeeps, which started as civilian versions of their military counterparts, but over time they expanded into their own line of vehicles.

The last group is the modern day wrangler jeeps. The wrangler brand has evolved the jeep into a modern day icon, updated for our current times.

In addition to these prints, there are also detailed versions that focus on pairs of related models and the grille designs throughout the years.

The project is ongoing, and the goal is to document the full history of the jeep to provide a comparative analysis of these vehicles through time. By comparing apples to apples with key dimensions and specifications, it becomes clear that the idea of an off-road capable vehicle has evolved heavily since 1941.
